COMMUNITY VALUES |
|
|
|
Our values define us
as individuals.
Collectively, our
shared values define
us as a community.
I will restore our
community's best values
to our government.
|
|
|
|
Community
- Columbia is only
as strong as the sum
of its parts.
For too long, some
members of City
Council have focused
energy and resources
on isolated parts of
our community while
allowing other areas
to languish.
It doesn't have to
be this way.
Because we value our
entire
community we must
embrace our moral
obligation to
strengthen the
entirety of our
city. As
individuals, we do
not care for one of our
children more than
the others - neither
should we care for
one part of our city
at the expense of
everyone else.
 |
|
ACCOUNTABILITY
- If we are to have
a vibrant and
healthy community,
we must demand
accountability from
our elected leaders.
Politicians are
often long on
promises and short
on delivery.
That is why I am not
a politician - I am
a member of your
community and I will
restore
accountability to
City Hall.
 |
|
Fairness
- A fair government
is one that treats
all of its citizens
with the same level
of dignity and
respect. It is
not acceptable for
select individuals,
groups and regions
within our community
to receive a
disproportionate
share of our
leader's attention
and our community's
resources.
 |
|
Opportunity
- The city has a
moral obligation to
provide opportunity
for all of
its citizens.
The job of the city
is to create an
environment where
all of the citizens
within our community can
achieve fulfillment
in life. By
providing
opportunity for all
of her citizens,
Columbia can become
a beacon to the rest
of our state,
region and nation.
 |
|
Honesty
- Healthy
communities require
that government is
honest with its
citizens. An honest
government is one
that will restore
the trust of the
community.
 |
|
PROSPERITY
-
Accountable, fair,
and honest
communities are
prosperous
communities.
By creating
prosperity for our
entire community,
Columbia can foster
conditions that will
allow all parts of
the city to achieve
their true
potential.
 |
|
Cooperation
- Columbia is itself
a member of a
greater community.
Healthy communities
are communities that
cooperate. For
too long City Hall
has spent more time
working against the
County and the State
than it has working
with them. If
the goal of
government is to
embody the values
listed above, then
we must work
together to fulfill
our moral
obligations to our
community.
